“VII Deadly Sins”

A fellow Sacramento burner named Kim Buonocore enlisted me and others to help her with her group art project, The Seven Deadly Sins. Kim found a old woodcut, eighteenth century or before, that was probably a reworking of a medieval original, and artist Jim Bowers of Colfax, California, gave it his interpretation, with input from the group. Now that I had a cartoon (preliminary drawing), I took over from there and the painting and any subsequent redrawing were mine. I think enough of it is mine now that I'm going to take the liberty of signing it on the front, and the history of its origin I just gave can go on the back.

These bizarre hybrid animal-humanoid figures were the entrance to the project, and each of these had a cutout where onlookers could put their faces through, in the time-honored carnival tradition. Each deadly sin (sloth, lust, etc.) had its own eight-foot panel, and other people have done those.

The "official" site for this project is here: http://www.eyesofgawd.com/sinner/index.html
